Tigers remain undefeated in district play

A quick start for Jacksboro Friday night could mean smooth sailing to the District 6-3A Division II championship.

The host Tigers scored 10 points in the first seven minutes and change and made the lead stick as Jacksboro took control of its own destiny in the loop with a 23-16 win over Dublin at Tiger Stadium. Both teams were unbeaten in the loop heading into the matchup which left Jacksboro at 3-0 and 5-3 overall with the Lions slipping to 2-1 and 6-2 overall.

Caleb Helm got the ball rolling, finding paydirt from a yard out with 7:36 left in the first for the first of his two scores. Edwin Salazar tacked on a 32-yard field goal less than three minutes later for a 10-0 lead.

A short field goal attempt was good, putting the Lions on the board down 10-3 after one. Dublin cut the lead with its first touchdown of the night but the extra point kick was off the mark, keeping the Tigers up 10-9.

Landon Davenport countered with a Jacksboro score, coming from six yards out. Salazar missed the extra point, but the Tigers were able to extend the lead to 16-9.
