Tigerettes win bi-district matchup
DENTON – When all else fails on a basketball court you should be able to count on two things: defense and free throws.
It was the latter that aided Jacksboro’s girls' basketball team Tuesday night, the Tigerettes going 13-17 at the free throw line, including 7-9 in a decisive fourth quarter which enabled the Purple to post a 39-30 bi-district Region I-3A win at Ryan High School.
Jacksboro is now 22-13 with Bowie slipping to 21-14. The Tigerettes will now face Cisco, the District 6-3A champ, in an area round matchup Friday at 7 p.m. in Mineral Wells.
Jacksboro Coach Todd Matlock said his squad, which led by 13 at halftime courtesy of an 11-0 run over the final three minutes of the half, needed to do a better job rebounding in the first two quarters.
“We needed to block out better,” Matlock said. “Bowie had eight offensive rebounds and were outhustling us.”
