Tigerettes split pair

Jacksboro’s varsity volleyball squad closed out play in the Windthorst Summer League with a split of games with Burkburnett and Archer City.

Brief summaries of both games follow.

Burkburnett 33, Jacksboro 26

The Tigerettes led by as many as six but the Lady ‘Dogs stormed back late to take control. Kylie Tullous broke things open with a fourpoint string to take a 6-3 lead. Burk knotted the match at seven and went on to take an 11-8 lead.

Lily Perez rolled off six straight points, with three aces and help from a Brailyn Tullous kill, to take a 16-11 lead. Jacksboro maintained its lead with senior Avery Bennett serving up three straight tallies for a 23-17.

The Tigerettes es would not come through with another serving point the rest of the way. Burkburnett would use a long serving run of its own to retake the lead late in the 25-minute match. Jacksboro broke serve courtesy of an Erin Jonas kill to cut the lead to 24-25 but the Purple would be unable to retake the lead before time in the 25-minute match expired.

Jacksboro 35, Archer City 28

After a 30-minute respite, Jacksboro got out to a quick start and led wire-to-wire for the win.

Chloe Hart got the Tigerettes off on the right foot with a fivepoint serving string for a 6-0 lead. Brailyn Tullous used a Charli Haak block as part of a threepoint skein to help the Purple go up 9-1.

The Lady Cats, who Jacksboro will face Aug. 23 in a non-district match, got back into the swing of things to draw within 10-11. A Jonas kill ended the run and set the table for Bennett who came through with a pair to take a 14-10 advantage.

Archer City again got within one… only to have the Purple break serve and have Haak serve up three points, including an ace, to go up five, 18-13. Perez added another fourpoint serving string as the lead ballooned to nine at 23-14.

The Lady ‘Cats got within six twice but singles from Kylie Tullous and Bennett along with pairs from Haak and Perez sealed the deal.

The girls will return to action Friday with a scrimmage in Graham and open the regular season Aug. 9 at Christ Academy.
