Tigerettes roll Archer City

ARCHER CITY – Coming off a disappointing weekend in Burkburnett with two starters riding the bench due to injuries, you couldn’t blame Jacksboro’s varsity volleyballers for a slow start Tuesday night.

The Tigerettes fell in a 9-0 hole in the opener vs. the Lady Cats in a gym that has been very unfriendly over the years. After somewhat of a rebound to respectability in game one, Jacksboro found its groove midway through game two and fought its way to a tough 18-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-10 victory.

Jacksboro is now 3-2 in non-pool play matches. Tigerette Coach Tennessee Arey said the squad is starting to turn the corner.

“We’re turning the corner as far as harnessing our emotions and finding out the little things don’t matter,” Arey said. “We had girls in new positions because of Morgyn (Green) and Trinity (Tisdale) being hurt and we were able to focus on teamwork.”

Green tweaked a recurring back injury last week while Tisdale rolled an ankle during the Burkburnett Tournament. Bringing up freshman Traci Berend reaped dividends, Arey said.

“Her tenacity and ability to shake off mistakes helped us in the tournament and tonight,” Arey said following the 99-minute match. “We were able to rebound from the slow start by shaking off the mistakes due to being in new positions and getting comfortable.”
