Softball team wins three 8-3A contests
BOYD – John Bennett doesn’t want a repeat of last year from his Tigerette softballers.
After a slow start in 2017, the squad turned things around to finish 6-8 in District 8-3A. The veteran mentor told his troops he wanted a quick start in 2018.
After a tough loss to Paradise to open the loop last week, Jacksboro was looking at another potential slow start here March 9, down 8-4 after four innings to the host Lady ‘Jackets. In a hopeful sign of things to come, the Tigerettes roared back with 10 runs over the next two at-bats and held off the hostesses in a 14-11 victory.
With the Friday win, Jacksboro is now 9-7 overall and 1-1 in District 8-3A while Boyd falls to 2-13 and 0-2. Bennett said the Tigerettes showed they can play with anyone in the second round last year.
“I didn’t want us to wait until the second round to begin playing this year,” Bennett said following the 2:23 contest. “It’s not going to be easy but I feel we can beat anyone in district.”
The rally began slowly for the visitors, which scored twice in the top of the 5th.
