Eagles ends Tigers’ season

GRAHAM – A pair of 28-point quarters in the middle frames enabled the No. 4 Holliday Eagles to pull away from Jacksboro and knock the Tigers from the playoffs, with a 63-12 Class 3A bi-district win last Thursday night at Newton Field in Graham.

Jacksboro ends its year at 5-5 with the Eagles moving into area at 11-0.

The Tigers put up 395 yards of offense and held the high-flying Eagles scoreless in the first quarter. Austin Jones put Holliday on the board with a 3-yard run with 9:49 left in the half to start an offensive shootout to end the half.

Less than five minutes later, the Tigers countered with a 5-yard pass from Lando Belcher to fellow sophomore Jett Davenport.

The Eagles scored twice over the next two minutes and change with Jaxx Johnson going on a 63-yard jaunt and adding a 30-yard scoring toss to Hayden Strealy for a 21-6 lead with 2:28 to go.

Jacksboro continued to fight, scoring on a 72-yard Belcher to Kaleem Howard strike to draw within 21-12. Holliday countered in the final second with a 32-yard throw from Peyton Marchand to Dallas Pecot to give the Eagles a 28-12 lead at the half.

Holliday scored four times in the third to put the game on ice.

Jacksboro had 176 yards on the ground, led by Gage Owen’s 50 steps on nine carries.

Belcher had eight totes for 32 yards. Baylor Laake picked up 30 yards on 12 carries and Cody Frie 28 yards on four runs. Domanik Hammond (4-7), Howard (1-2) and Ryder Jackson (3-12) aided with the ground game.

Belcher was 13-24 for 219 yards and two interceptions. Davenport led the receiving charge with five grabs for 50 yards, Howard had three receptions for 85 yards and Peyton Kinman two catches for eight yards.

Having one grab each were Jackson (five yards), Owen (zero yards), Christian Wiggins (30 yards), and Paul Shackelford (41 yards).
