Brock holds off Jacksboro
Good teams find a way to stay in the fight even when they are on the way out of it.
Brock’s girls, which lead District 7-3A with a 12-0 record heading into Friday night’s matchup at third place Jacksboro, took a 15-point lead into the fourth quarter despite not playing all that well.
The Tigerettes, looking for a deep run into the playoffs, made things very interesting late, getting within five midway through the quarter. Brock held tough, however, hitting its free throws down the stretch where Jacksboro did not in a closer than it looked 54-43 victory for the Lady Eagles at Tiger Gym.
The visitors took a 39-24 lead into the final stanza. Seniors Baylee Thompson and Morgyn Green began to make things interesting with a basket and 3-pointer, respectively to get within 11with 6:11 remaining.
Buckets by Thompson and Hadlee Richardson got the squad within six with 5:12 to go while Green’s second trey of the quarter cut the deficit to 41-36 with 3:18 to go as part of opening the quarter 6-of-8 shooting.
That would prove important as the hostesses missed their last four shots of the game and their final three free throws. That enabled Brock to pull away, as the Lady Eagles hit their last seven free throws and three buckets.
For the game, Brock was 20-28 at the charity stripe and the Tigerettes were 11-28.
