Brock girls claw Jacksboro
MINERAL WELLS – Jacksboro’s girls' basketball team looked to grab the top seed in District 7-3A Friday night with its second win over Brock this year.
The Lady Eagles had other ideas.
The Tigerettes got out to a quick first quarter lead but it was all Brock’s defense from there, allowing just 15 points over the final three quarters. Jacksboro’s defense held Brock to just 31 points over the first three frames but the Lady Eagles outscored Jacksboro 12-3 in the final quarter to post a 43-34 win in a tiebreaker game at Ram Gym.
Brock will now enter the Class 3A playoffs as the top seed out of District 7 while Jacksboro will go in as the number two seed to face Bowie. The bi-district game was played after press time.
Jacksboro Coach Todd Matlock said he felt his squad played well early.
“We handled the press and were able to find shots early in our offensive possession. (Our) defense was spot on in the first half,” Matlock said. “We had a hand in shooters’ faces and ran them off the three-point line.”
