Bryson drops Graford to qualify for playoffs
BOWIE – Note to baseball coaches: make sure your players know the signs.
Bryson junior Tanner Buchanan had the weight of the Cowboy world on his shoulders Monday evening, he and his teammates having come back from a 6-0, third-inning deficit to tie the game at seven in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the bases full and the winning run just 90 feet away, Buchanan was signaled to bunt by Head Coach Brent Tuel.
Thing is, Buchanan was unsure of the sign.
“I saw the sign and I hoped it was for a bunt, so I went with it,” Buchanan said. “It all worked out.”
That it did, as Buchanan, who qualified for the State Track Meet in the pole vault just two days before, laid down a perfect bunt to the first base side of home, enabling Ethan Robinson to slide in with the winning run to complete the comeback in an 8-7 playoff spot clinching win at Jackrabbit Field here.
