County FB teams open tonight

Showtime is upon us.

After two scrimmages, several practices, and film sessions, it’s time to see what Jack County football teams have in the tank. All three squads will have that opportunity this weekend.

Jacksboro will host Olney this evening in a 7:30 p.m. tilt. Jacksboro Coach Brannon Rodgers and his staff have gone over film of the Cubs and have come away fairly impressed.

“Olney is a young team doing a lot of good things,” Rodgers commented. “They have had two good scrimmages and Coach (Mark) Young has done a good job with them.”

The Cubs went winless last year and suffered a 58-6 loss to Jacksboro. Olney has six starters back on both sides of the line so improvement from last year is possible.

Jacksboro is coming off a scrimmage with an always salty Santo squad. Rodgers said his Tigers cleaned up a number of things and are ready to take on the Cubs.

“We were able to get some good looks from a lot of different guys which will create depth later in the year,” Rodgers said. “Santo will have a very good season this year. I was impressed with their team and I think it was a good scrimmage for both teams.”
