OLNEY – For the second straight year, Perrin’s volleyballers gave an opponent many thought they wouldn’t compete with everything they wanted.
Unfortunately for the Lady Pirates, Electra had too much in the tank late and sent Perrin to a 17-25, 26-24, 22-25, 14-25 Class A bi-district loss here Tuesday night.
Electra, the second place team in District 9-A, jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game one and were never headed. Summer Burkett and Natasha Frissell came through with serving pairs with Makenna Mathis serving up three in a row but it wasn’t enough.
PERRIN – Throughout time, adults have tried to get kids to buy into what they’re to teach them with varying results.
In the early going of the Perrin 2021 football season, the young Pirates, with just five seniors, have resisted what the coaching staff is trying to tell them. The outcome was an 0-2 start to the campaign.
PERRIN – Bryson’s volleyball team is learning in the early weeks of the season, developing those skills in the Krum Tournament last month and furthering that in a three-game sweep of county rival Perrin Aug. 24, 25-6, 25-9, 25-17. Bryson coach Kim Hauger said her team started turning the corner in that regard last weekend.
“We started communicating better and I reminded them in the locker room to communicate,” Hauger said. “We didn’t have a lot of balls hit the floor tonight which was a problem earlier because we weren’t communicating.”
PERRIN – Lady Pirate volleyball opened the season on the up swing Monday, Aug. 9 with a convincing 25-12, 25-17, 25-17 homecourt win over the Bluff Dale Lady Bobcats.
The match was the last of a five match day between the two schools and Saint Jo. Since Saint Jo is a district foe of Perrin, the latter two schools did not compete.
Perrin Mentor Rebekah Bland was pleased with what she saw to open the campaign. Having the young team, with just one senior, play together this summer has paid dividends.
Despite a senior year unlike any other, the class of 2020 at Jack County high schools celebrated their graduations on Friday, May 22, evening.
Even with forecasts of severe thunderstorms throughout the day, the rain held off and the lightning remained overhead allowing the ceremonies to take place without interruptions.
During the May 11 Jacksboro City Council meeting, Jack County Judge Keith Umphress spoke to the council about his decision to decline the offer of Governor Greg Abbott to station the National Guard in Jack County for a mobile testing site.
Abbott activated the Texas National Guard at the end of March to assist communities with COVID-19 testing using mobile testing teams. They were activated to counties designated as hotspots or viewed as more rural.
Perrin-Whitt CISD released its modified plans for senior graduation, junior high graduation, kindergarten graduation and the high school and junior high award assembly on Saturday, May 9, due to COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines.
According to a press release, district officials discussed these events at great length and have said it will be limiting the events to 50% capacity per current restrictions.
Perrin High School administration, seniors and senior parents met through Zoom Wednesday, April 29, to discuss the schools options for hosting an in-person graduation.
Perrin High School Principal Loren Sell led the meeting and discussed two options to host graduation at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 22.
In these days of trying times, much of the focus has been on high school seniors and what they are losing at this point in their lives.
While seniors appear to be getting graduation in some form or fashion, two Jack County school districts are making sure seniors are getting attention and knowing they are being thought of. Both Perrin and Bryson have started Adopt a Senior programs for the Class of 2020.
