Dear Editor,
Warmer temperatures over the weekend and continuing this week melted most of the snow from the state’s roadways and roofs. But Texans are still dealing with broken pipes that flooded homes and businesses, damaged municipal water systems, and continued power outages in scattered areas, mainly in East and Central Texas.
This morning it was minus three degrees. For those of you south of the equator, that’s cold. You see, it’s winter in Texas … and North Carolina … and really winter in Oklahoma where it has been about twenty below for several days. It has something to do with Global Warming and the Polar vortex. Somehow the warm air below the polar ice cap has allowed the cold air hovering over the ice cap to slip down into the more temperate zones. Are you impressed? I didn’t have to look any of this up and am probably not exactly right. I’m not even sure where to look it up … but if my internet was working, I would try. So, just take this with a grain of salt … rock salt that you probably need on your sidewalk to melt some of that ice.
The clever and ever-so-simple message Julie Andrews conveyed in The Sound of Music--a classic if there ever was one--provided encouragement that thrilled a nation.
I feel like I need to be writing an apology to the neighbors and the dog catcher … animal control lady. Let’s just get it out in the open. I’m not a very good dog mother. I have always thought I had the best dogs in the world. They were pretty. They were smart. They were well trained.
This is an editorial provided to you by your neighbor. First I ask that you do your own research.
It’s an honor to take over writing “Capital Highlights” from two capable predecessors, Chris Cobler and Ed Sterling. They are tough acts to follow, but I’ll do my best.
Folks who regularly lump alcoholic beverages into the cauldron labeled “witches’ brew” may still be shaking their heads, wondering why Anheuser-Busch didn’t get their famous Clydesdales in harness for Super Bowl LV.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder … I know. But lately my mirrors are acting up. Not only am I noticing a deficiency in my natural, youthful beauty, but my “beholders” have fallen behind. If their “eyes” are working, then something must be wrong with their “complementors.” Either they, too, have succumbed to the ravages of old age and therefore can’t see well, or something is wrong with me. Surely, not.
It’s been said you can’t keep good man down.
For a few weeks I haven’t been able to breathe right and have had trouble moving up and downstairs. My doctor doesn’t approve to be horribly worried, so I’ve decided to not be as well.
On the positive side, I’ve decided to get back or the radio and do halftime stats. There was a time where I couldn’t muster the air or not cough for the ability to give the halftime stats on the radio.
