If you are happy and you know it, you are lucky

Sometimes I wonder what it would take to make someone happy. Really happy. Don’t get me wrong… I’m a Christian, so that’s a given. Without faith in something higher than oneself, life would be rather pointless. Without a framework… even the simple one that Jesus suggested… “love God and love your neighbor as much as you love yourself”… or something close to that. Even that framework of behavior is effective… and would make most of us happy.

It’s reunion time again... get thin, smart and borrow a car

There are many in this country who could commiserate with me about this time. You see, it’s May, and many are making plans to attend a reunion this summer. Family reunions will include great-aunts you haven’t seen since they made fun of you as a child, children who look a lot like your own, and some people who have wandered into the wrong place and no one has the nerve to ask why they are there.

Mort and prayers for rain

My old Uncle Mort is nothing if not analytical, even when he’s not even looking for ways to make easy bucks. He called recently to provide his analysis of members of the Thicket Community Church whose pastor called for a special mid-week prayer session appealing for rain. It would be at high noon on the church lawn.
