JHS VB sweeps opener

Thu, 08/09/2018 - 2:30 pm

WICHITA FALLS – Any new coach will tell you getting a team to believe in itself is one of the hardest things to do.

Jacksboro’s varsity volleyball squad is still in the learning stages with new Coach Tennessee Arey, having had its first practice less than a week before Tuesday night’s season opener. After sweeping host City View 25-19, 25-21 in the opener, the Tigerettes hit the skids in a game one loss to Class 2A Munday, 24-26.

Arey was able to get her squad to regroup, Jacksboro pulling out a tight game two, 25-22, before pulling away 15-5 in the game three finale to take the sweep and open the season on a high note.

“We got down on ourselves in game one vs. Munday after playing pretty well vs. City View,” Arey said. “We’re still playing very inconsistently and we need to play more of a mental game.”

The Mogulettes looked poised and ready for the two-game sweep of Jacksboro, going up 22-20 in game two, forcing Arey into a timeout.
