Bryson to add golf team

Editor's Note: This is to clarify a statement Richardson made on the physicality of sports.

BRYSON – Bryson picked up another UIL sport Monday night after school board members approved starting a golf team.

Tracy Richardson, a Bryson graduate whose daughter goes to Jacksboro High, asked the board if they would consider starting a team here. He said it’s a great opportunity for young people who do not like the physicality of many sports like football to try a sport.

“It’s physical but not like football physical,” Richardson said.

Richardson also noted it’s also a chance to play as an individual and as a team, as five players make up a team but only the top four scores go toward a team score during a competition, which normally goes on during the Spring.

Richardson acknowledged being so late in the budget cycle, such an idea would not be in the budget for this upcoming year.

“I know it takes a lot of work, but I would be willing to drive kids to workouts whether in Jacksboro or Graham or help out where I could,” Richardson said.
