Tiger Baseball Club wins State title

Thu, 06/07/2018 - 11:29 am

COPPELL – Tiger Baseball Club out of Jacksboro sent their 12U team to Coppell, Texas to compete in the Triple Crown State Tournament.  The young Tigers did nothing short of dominating the competition, going 7-0 in the tournament and outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 87-15.  Jacksboro ended the tournament with staggering numbers such as a team batting average of .517, 15 doubles, two triples, and six home runs.  These small town sluggers defeated teams from McKinney, Coppell, Lewisville, Highland Village, Granbury, Southlake, and Austin.

The semi-final game was a come from behind victory over Southlake that featured several key moments.

The Dragons were leading 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth when Lando Belcher fouled off eight pitches with two strikes and finally deposited a high fastball over the left field fence.  Kasey Ray Swan didn’t want Belcher’s homerun ball to get lonely in the patch woods beyond left field so he sent a booming home run of his own to left, which further cut into the Southlake lead.

Ty Gunner Thompson had a line drive RBI double off the left-center field fence and Kaleem Howard scored the all-important tying run on a gutsy, heads-up baserunning play that ended with a cloud of dust and a bloody nose.
