There will soon be a new face at Jacksboro Elementary School. Superintendent Dwain Milam announced last week that Aaron Hannah has been selected as the new principal for JES.

Hannah comes to Jacksboro from Van Horn School where he has served as the kindergarten through 12th grade principal for the last year.

He has been in education for 14 years beginning his career in Carrolton in elementary special education.

He is originally from Missouri where he obtained his bachelor’s degree from Truman State University. He also holds a master’s degree in organizational psychology and a master’s in education administration.

He took his first position in administration in 2014 as the special education coordinator for Wylie ISD.

He said he chose to come to Jacksboro for several reasons including having family nearby in Stephenville.

“The area is one of the reasons. I like the size of the community, the size of the school and the progression of the school — where they come from and where they’re going, certainly the path that the school board and superintendent have helped put them on,” Hannah said.

In looking at the school’s performance in recent years, the new principal is eager to jump in.

“They have high quality teachers. Looking at the growth and the data they have is impressive,” Hannah said. “They have a lot of support from their parents which is important also. It’s evident by the amount of involvement that the parents and the community have with the school.”

Hannah’s contract begins mid-June but said he’ll be around as often as possible sooner. He is replacing Tina Alvarado who spent two years as the school’s principal. Alvarado submitted her resignation for personal reasons following Spring Break.
