Thompson prepares for State Meet

Thu, 05/10/2018 - 12:13 pm
JHS sophomore competes at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday

Baylee Thompson is just trying to get all the puzzle pieces together right now.

The Jacksboro High sophomore qualified for this weekend’s State Track and Field Meet at the Mike Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus in both the discus and shot put, which both take place Friday. Thompson says at this stage she’s doing the same things but just fixing the things that need fixing.

“It’s just a question of putting all the pieces together right now,” Thompson said with a laugh. “Coach Hood   said if I can do that, I’ll be just fine.”

Throwing her hips into the throw is her focus heading into the meet. Thompson was close to qualifying for State last year, finishing third in the discus at regionals where they take the top two in each event. She convincingly won both the discus and shot put at regionals last month.

“I knew I had a good chance (of going to State),” Thompson said. “I learned a lot at regionals last year which helped. I thought (teammate) Leah ((Plaster) had a chance of qualifying as well.”
