Perrin SB sweeps past Alvord

Mon, 04/30/2018 - 2:35 pm

JACKSBORO – You’d be hard-pressed to find a happier man than Ben Staggs Saturday night.

Perrin’s veteran softball coach nearly leaped out of the Lady Pirate dugout after his squad had recorded the final out and let out a whoop that would make any Texas A&M Aggie proud in a 7-2 Game 2 win over Alvord in a best-of-three Class 2A bi-district win at Tigerette Field here. With the sweep of the Lady Bulldogs, Perrin (19-3) moves on in the postseason for the first time in six years.

Staggs was pleased with the way his squad didn’t rest on its laurels after its win in game one of the series two nights prior.

“We woke up tonight and were ready to play ball from the start,” Staggs said in reference to his squad’s slow start in the series opener. “We were aggressive at the plate and didn’t let a big game like this affect us.”

Perrin, which will face Crawford in a best-of-three area round series beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. in Glen Rose, slapped out 10 hits.
