Bryson VB loses in regional semis
SAN ANGELO – On an evening where they needed to play their best, Bryson’s volleyball team seemed out of sorts vs. Blum in the Region II-A Tournament semifinals. The Lady Cats took advantage and ended the Cowgirls season with a 25-21, 25-16, 25-21 win at Central High’s Didrickson Gym.
The Cowgirls ended their season at 24-20. Blum had its season ended one day later with a straight set loss to top-ranked Tioga, which moves on to the State Tournament in Garland this week.
Blum was able to use a good frontcourt match from Gentrye Murden and sophomore Emma Rodriguez to keep Bryson from any long offensive strings. Much of the Cowgirls’ issues were self-inflicted, however, in being out of position and thinking a teammate would get the ball which would then hit the floor.
Bryson continued to have to fight out of holes throughout the 68-minute match, a common problem this year. Blum led 9-5 in the opener but the Cowgirls came back on the serving of junior Maddee Moore to take a 10-9 lead. Two aces in the skein delighted the Bryson faithful who made the trip.
