Perrin FB falls to LCC

Fri, 09/22/2017 - 12:31 am

PERRIN –It was a “win some, lose some” Friday for the Pirates here.

While Perrin lost its Homecoming game to Lake Country Christian, 49-19, it gained a win as Chico, which had beaten the squad in the season opener, was found to have used three ineligible players in the game. CISD officials contacted Perrin Coach Ben Staggs and informed him of the infraction.

“We’re now 1-2 instead of 0-3,” Staggs commented. “It’s a moral win.”

It’s been a rough start of the season for the first-year coach and players. Of the 23 players on the roster, 10 are freshmen receiving a baptism by fire. Staggs said he’s still trying to get players into positions during a full game.

“We’ve yet to play a game where we’ve had the same 11 guys in the same position for the whole game,” Staggs said. “This was our overall best effort of the season so far, so we’re coming around.”

It was a great start for the Pirates as senior Brady Adair recovered a fumble on the game’s first play to the delight of a full house of Homecoming supporters. The drive went nowhere after Perrin turned the ball over.
