Scrimmage time in Jack County

Thu, 08/24/2017 - 12:43 pm

BRECKENRIDGE – Jacksboro Football Coach Brannon Rodgers saw “more positives than negatives” in his Tigers’ first scrimmage of the year Friday night.

Jacksboro “outscored” the Buckaroos 4-3 in the two-hour scrimmage. Rodgers was pleased with the way his squad operated the new offense and defense.

“The effort was there and the kids responded well to the competition,” Rodgers said. “When you don’t know the kids, you’re not sure how they’re going to react the first time out.”

As in any first scrimmage, there are some things the coaches and players found on film that need to be addressed.

“You always have the chance to see more of the positives and negatives on film than when you’re there watching it. Defensively, we rarely blocked the way we were supposed to and there were normal miscues that can be fixed,” Rodgers said. “Having a scrimmage (this week) vs. Santo will give us the opportunity to clean up those mistakes.”
