Herman Horace Epperson passed away at his home in Jacksboro surrounded by his family. He was 88 years old.

He was born on April 24, 1929 to John Drewery and Fannie Maude (Leatherwood) Epperson in Jack County, Texas-the youngest of five children.

He married Treva Laverne Gates on June 18, 1951 in Perrin, Texas. They were married for 66 years. Herman worked many years in the oil field, for Southern Airways as a helicopter mechanic and retired from the Texas Highway Department. Herman served his country proudly as a Staff Sergeant in the Army during the Korean War. He was especially proud that he was asked to serve as an Honor Guard for the 1952 Miss America Pageant. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Jacksboro where he and Treva were members for 51 years. He loved the outdoors, his cows, and his dogs including Patches and his present Smokey. Herman was a very kind and generous man; he loved his family with all his heart. He will be missed dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers John, Paul, and Boyd Epperson and sister Lydia Syrus.

Among those who will always cherish his sweet memory include his wife Treva of Jacksboro; his daughters Jackie Ranette Doggett and husband Bill of Springtown, Donna Annette Kozlovsky and husband Michael of Jacksboro; sister-in-laws Peggy and Ella Jean Epperson; grandchildren Brett Doggett and wife Kristy, Chad Doggett and wife Sandy, Shea Hartzell Kinsey, Kirbie Hartzell Bryan and husband Mike, Chelsea Doggett Strickland, Carly Jo Rhoades, Amber Rhoades and Keith Tebo, Justin Kozlovsky and wife Marisella, Terry Glen Rhoades III, and Casidee Rhoades; great-grandchildren Kayla, Kamryn, Bailey, Jace, Peyton, Alex, Chandler, Louden, Kinsley, Gracie, Kain, Evelyn, Klaire, Daelyn, Katelyn, Alezia, Izabel, Brooke, MaKenna, Kaylie; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
