Shirley Russell

Fri, 07/28/2017 - 5:19 pm

Shirley Russell, our beautiful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, “GG”, left this earthly home July 19, 2017 to begin a new life with our Lord and Savior.

Shirley was born Dec. 11, 1934 to Jack and Honor Nelson in Altus, Oklahoma.

Shirley was a resident of San Angelo and a member of Johnson St. Church of Christ.

Shirley never knew a stranger.  She could start and carry on a conversation with anyone she met. Her beautiful smile and charismatic sense of welcoming made those who met her feel as though they had known her forever, and those who knew her, love her even more. She brought a smile to everyone she met. She always placed family first and instilled strong values in her children. She had many names over the years but two of her favorite were grandma and gigi.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Kenneth R. Russell, her daughter, Susan Mason, and son-in-law, Jim Ashlock.

Shirley is survived by her children, Cyndy Ashlock; Rick and wife Donna Russell; grandchildren, Jennifer Ashlock, Ben and wife Leslie Ashlock, Kenneth Russell and Alex Russell and Josh Mason; great-grandchildren, Drew and Kate Ashlock, Zayden and Ethan Russell.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the paramedics who came and got her quickly to the ER and all of the doctors and nurses at Shannon Medical Center who cared for her and made her transition to her new life a comfortable one.

Shirley was deeply loved and will never be forgotten.

A memorial service was held Saturday, July 22 at Johnson Street Church of Christ in San Angelo.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Alzheimer’s Association or your favorite charity.
