A–F ratings for 2023 released
Jack County schools did reasonably well after the Texas Education Association released its accountability ratings for the 202223 school year Thursday, April 24. The A–F accountability system was established in 2017 by the 85th Texas Legislature through House Bill (HB) 22 to provide clear and consistent information on how schools are performing in three key areas: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps.
BISD approves 2025-26 calendar
Going to a complete fourday week for the 2025-26 school year, Bryson ISD’s board of trustees unanimously approved its school calendar during a Monday, April 21 meeting. BISDSuperintendentGreg London said a site based committee, composed of administrators, teachers, and staff, met several times to discuss the calendar.
‘Gathering Hope’ for women who have lost infants
Jill Payson is a “Loss Mom.” Payson, a Jacksboro mother of two who lost a child 13 years ago, wants women to know there is help out there for those who have lost a child. The organization Gathering Hope works with mothers and families who are dealing with such a loss.
Hayhurst named new VP at First State Bank in Jacksboro

PWCISD hosts final bond meeting
Perrinschoolofficials provided voters a final chance Wednesday, April 23 to hear more about the proposed $25,450,500 bond. The district has had two prior meetings to discuss why the bond is needed and what is being proposed.
JISD bond projects update
During his report at last week’s Jacksboro ISD school board meeting, Superintendent Brad Burnett provided an update on bond construction progress. As of the Monday, April 14 meeting, he said progress is going well on all buildings, most notably the Career and Technology Education center.
STOMP ‘springs into action’
It’s been a busy spring for Jack County STOMP so far and only going to get busier. The organization, which stands for Standing Together on Meth Prevention, recently moved into new, larger offices at 117 E.
Salazar sees bright future in Pct. 2
Amy Salazar keeps a potted plant in her window at the new Jack County Precinct 2 Barn. It’s a reminder of her husband Kenny, who passed away in February, and the job he did as Jack County Precinct 2 Commissioner.
