Wellness Center set for January opening

Despite heavy rains over the past few months which have caused some delays in the construction of the Faith Community Hospital Wellness Center, work has begun to roll again.

FCH Administrator Frank Beaman said steel and framing for the facility are now up. More importantly the roof decking is expected to be installed next week.

Beaman said that will be huge as far as continued construction is concerned and that the facility is getting into the homestretch.

Tuesday is the last day to register to vote

The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 8 general election is Tuesday, Oct. 11. To register to vote, complete a Texas Voter Registration application and submit it to the county voter registrar.

Voter registration cards may be mailed or dropped off in person. To drop off, take to the Jack County Voter Registrar/Tax Assessor Collector’s office in Room 209 in the courthouse by 5 p.m. Tuesday. If mailed, a voter registration must be postmarked by Oct. 11.

The registrar’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Homecoming underway

Jacksboro Homecoming week kicked off with the bonfire Friday night.

Former Dallas Cowboy Eugene Lockhart fired up the crowd with an inspirational message encouraging all to look to God for strength.

“If you fall down, hope you fall on your back because if you can look up, you can get up,” he said.

A group of seniors then threw their torches to light the fire.

Friday’s parade was the biggest ever with 62 parade entries.

Student looks to build dock at Lake Jacksboro

A Jacksboro student is making plans to build a dock at Lake Jacksboro.

Johnny Callan, president of the Jacksboro FFA chapter, sought a community service project as part of his acceptance as one of 10 Texas FFA Ford Leadership Scholars this year.

The program originated when Ford donated $1 million to FFA.

“But they didn’t just want to donate the money, they wanted something in return,” Callan said during a presentation to the city council during its regular meeting Monday. 

4-H week coming up

Members of the Jack County 4-H group came to Commissioners Court Monday to discuss a proclamation honoring National 4-H Week Oct. 2-8.

Dalton Birdwell spoke of the Clover Campaign which Tractor Supply Company will be sponsoring for 4-H next month where people can make donations to benefit 4-H. All proceeds made at the Jacksboro TSC stay in the county, according to County Extension Agent Alinda Cox.

Bryson celebrates Homecoming

Bryson High School celebrated Homecoming 2016 Friday, Sept. 23.

Emily Alaniz was selected as the 2016 Homecoming Queen during a ceremony at half-time in the game against Woodson.

Also during the ceremony, Geneva Day and Benny Huggins were named the 2016 Bryson Coming Home King and Queen.

The Bryson Cowboys pulled off a win 61-16 win against Woodson.

271st District Court pleas, dismissals and indictments

The 271st District Court issued the following indictments, dismissals and pleas for Jack County for the months of July, August and September

Dale Everett Norris pleaded to theft of more than $1,500 but less than $20,000 and received a sentence of 1 day in the Jack County Jail

Bobbie Gene Ramzy Jr. pleaded to deadly conduct, discharge of a firearm and received 6 years deferred adjudication.

National Night Out set for Tuesday

Jacksboro and Perrin will celebrate National Night Out Tuesday with an evening of fun for the whole family.

National Night Out is an annual community-building event to encourage citizen and police partnerships to make neighborhoods safer places to live.

In Jacksboro, the police department has organized the event for the last five years and it continues to grow.

“The first year we had it at the new fire station right after it opened and we had maybe about 50 people,” said Police Chief Terry McDaniel. “Last year, we had in the hundreds.”
