Results from four precincts in including city's alcohol proposition

Results of four voting precincts reporting along with early voting results in Jack County elections show Republican Brad Dixon in the lead over Democrat Mike Mask for the county attorney race with 84.74 percent versus 15.26 percent.

In the race for Precinct 3 County Commissioner, Republican Henry Birdwell had 79.95 percent of the early votes to Democrat Chuck Bilby’s 20.05.

Jack County to celebrate its veterans Friday

Jack County communities have planned their annual Veterans Day programs to honor the local men and women who have served in the US military.

Jacksboro, Bryson and Perrin schools will each host ceremonies recognizing veterans.

Jacksboro ISD’s program will kick off first at 9 a.m. in the middle school auditorium, 812 W. Belknap Street. Elementary, middle school and high school students will participate in singing patriotic songs, performing a skit and recognizing veterans in attendance.

More than 40 percent of Jack County voters cast ballots during early voting

More than 40 percent of Jack County’s registered voters voted early for the November 8 general election. Of the 5,080 registerd voters in the county, 2,172 cast their ballots by 7 p.m. Friday.

Those who did not vote during early may cast their ballots Tuesday until 7 p.m. at their designated precinct polling place.

The proper voting precinct is listed on each voter registration card.

Hospital partners with school to add programs

Jacksboro High School and Faith Community Hospital are taking steps to give students some hands-on learning opportunities..

The hospital is supporting education initiatives for the school and community.

Principal Brad Burnett said the hospital’s IT Coordinator Ben McKay met with interested students for an introduction to an afternoon workshop to teach them information technology.

Lost Battalion monument moved, rededicated

Family members of the 2nd Battalion, 131st Field Artillery, 36th Infantry Division (Texas National Guard), otherwise known as the “Lost Battalion” attended a rededication of the memorial at Faith Community Hospital Wednesday morning.

It is called the lost battalion because the fate of the men was unknown to the United States until September 1944 after they were captured by Japanese forces on the island of Java in March 1942. They were prisoners of war for 42 months until the end of World War II.

Fair Association proposes additional facility

The Jack County Fair Association proposed construction of a new ag barn to include a concession stand and restrooms for use at the baseball fields to the Jacksboro City Council at its regular meeting Monday.

The location of the new barn would be where the outdoor cattle pens are now near the current barn.

Jeff Lewis with the fair association presented some concept drawings of the facility created by Wichita Falls architect Dick Bundy.

County says no to sign changes

County Commissioners decided to keep the same guidelines and procedures of the electronic marquee outside the courthouse during Monday’s meeting.

Jacksboro Chamber of Commerce officials had asked the court last month to consider allowing churches that are Chamber members the opportunity to have their service times on the marquee. After tabling the item two weeks ago due to the absence of Judge Mitchell Davenport, the item was on Monday’s agenda.

No voting issues reported

Despite having received questions concerning votes changing, Jack County Clerk Vanessa James said she has received no reports of any such issues as of Tuesday afternoon.

James said 334 voters cast their ballots on Monday, the first day of early voting. As of Thursday morning, 826 people had voted.

With 5,080 registered voters in the county, 16 percent have cast their ballots within the first three days.

James said she has seen claims on social media that voters saw in the summary after making their selections, their choice for president had changed. 

Pack the Pickup set for Wednesday through Friday

The Jacksboro Lions Club, with the help of Lowe’s Market and Four Stars Ford, will host its Pack the Pickup Food Drive from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at the grocery store.

The food drive will benefit the Jacksboro Community Food Pantry just in time to help the organization provide Thanksgiving meals for Jack County families.

Food Pantry Director Sheri Kettlety said food was distributed to 137 families in September or 438 people. The pantry serves an average of 425 to 450 people a month.
