Vote postponed on tax abatement
Jack County Commissioners were scheduled to vote Monday on the application from Lasso Wind, LLC, for the designation of a certain area of the county as a reinvestment zone for tax abatement.
After a 90-minute public hearing on the item at the Jack County Courthouse, which has divided the county for several months, a commissioner leaving forced a delay on the vote.
A packed room watched Precinct 1 Commissioner Gary Oliver give a brief statement and then leave the proceedings after the public hearing.
“I am not going to be a pawn in this action,” Oliver said. “Voters are not speaking loud enough on this issue. I’m leaving, so there will not be a quorum.”
