Thomas, McNallen win at FWSSR

After a strong showing in the Jack County Junior Livestock Show in January, Jacksboro residents Kobe Thomas and Avary McNallen earned some recognition at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo over the last couple of weeks. 

Thomas won the Reserve Champion White/Other Purebred Barrow in the Junior Barrow Show during the 2020 Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo at the Dickies Arena on Feb. 5 and 6. McNallen captured First Reserve Best In Show with her Specials - Mini Lop in the 68th Anniversary Rabbit Roundup Youth Show from Jan. 31 through Feb. 2.

According to a press release, there were nearly 15,000 junior entries in the livestock show which provides youth with the opportunity to earn scholarships, sale proceeds and premiums toward their education, as well as toward the purchase of livestock to grow their own herds and genetic resources. The exhibitors, which came from 235 of 254 Texas counties, were competing for awards and over $32,000 in Junior Barrow premiums. The 2020 rabbit show hosted exhibitors from across North and South America.

During the JCJLS at the beginning of January at the Jack County Fair Barn, Thomas placed first in class one of the White OPB Gilt Division, showed the Reserve Grand Champion York Gilt, showed the overall Grand Champion Gilt which was also the Grand Champion Dark Cross Gilt, show the third place OPB Barrow in class 1 and showed the Champion OPB Barrow.

At the JCJLS, McNallen placed second in the Class 4 AO Bucks Breeding Rabbits, third in the class 6 Bucks division, seventh in the class 6 Bucks division and first in the Class 4 AO Does division.
