Craig Parson is in his second year as a Biology I teacher and JHS and says he loves his job.

He loves his job so much he invited JHS Principal Starla Sanders to see why.

“He has a very active classroom,” Sanders said.

As part of his featured teacher presentation before the Jacksboro ISD Board at its meeting Dec. 14 he showed a video of his students and how they’re learning in the classroom. They discussed what osmosis and DNA was and displayed models of their cells.

They also discussed vaccine and how to solve why the spike in the cell is not keeping its shape using more models in the classroom.

In other news, the district reported a score of 98 on a 100 scale for its Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas rating. Superintendent Dwain Milam said the scores run a couple years behinds this is from 2018.

Principals gave their monthly reports in the week before Christmas. Jacksboro Elementary has an enrollment of 498 with an attendance rate of 97.7 percent which Principal Michael Qualls says is the best week of the year.

Once school gets back in session, Qualls said a focus on RTI will get the second semester. The school won the Academic District Championship in November. Qualls said the UIL competitions are used as a good compliment to education at JES.

At Jacksboro Middle School, Principal Sara Mathis, the school has a “small” enrollment of 264 after declining slowly throughout the year but its still big for the school overall. JMS has an attendance rate of 96.25 percent. Mathis recognized her students which won the South Zone UIL Championship.

The meet was refined as just Bowie, Breckenridge, and Jacksboro took part.

On the high school front, the school’s enrollment is 291 and the staff is working on getting students back in class, be it in person or virtual, that may have fallen off because of the pandemic.
