Sheriff's Posse Rodeo coming up next week

It’s nearly rodeo time. The Jack County Sheriff’s Posse will host its 62nd Annual Rodeo Thursday through Saturday June 1-3 nightly at 8 p.m.

Rodeo weekend festivities will kick off with a parade Thursday in downtown Jacksboro at 5 p.m. followed immediately by the Jacksboro Lions Club Fish Fry on the east side of the Jack County Courthouse.

The rodeo will feature saddle bronc, bare back, bull riding, calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling and barrel racing events.

The books open Monday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for contestants. The number to call is 800-547-6336.

The rodeo is open pro approved and are UPRA, CPRA and UPSU sanctioned.

The mutton bustin’ qualifying night will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday. All children up to 6 years old and 50 pounds are invited to ride. The cost is $30 to ride to qualify and the top 15 will compete at 7 p.m. on rodeo nights.

Rodeo admission is $6 for children and $10 for adults. The sheriff’s posse arena is located west of Jacksboro on Highway 380 West.

A dance featuring music by the Hired Guns band will take place Friday and Saturday nights following the rodeo. Admission is $10.
