PWCISD Superintendent Cliff Gilmore started his new job with the district last week.

PERRIN – District officials received a clean financial audit for the 2015-16 school year, board members found out during Tuesday night’s board meeting.

Gary Snow with the accounting firm of Snow, Garrett, and Williams spoke of the audit he did and made note of a number of positives including a $485,000 increase in the fund balance, which he called “very good.”

“I haven’t seen an increase that large in one year in quite a while,” Snow said.

Snow also praised the district for doing a good job in budgeting. Snow noted that districts should keep a minimum of three months of operating funs in a rainy day fund. Prior to last year, the district had four months of capital and now has roughly just over five months.

Since the audit was not on the agenda, no action was taken. Action on the audit is scheduled to be done at the board’s November meeting.

In other news, board members changed a staff development day from Dec. 9 to Dec. 12. Superintendent Cliff Gilmore, in his first meeting since being hired, said that Dec. 9 is the Spring District Academic Meet for the school and Perrin needs to be represented well by students.

“It will still be a three-day weekend (for the students),” Gilmore said. “We’re just moving things around.”

To start the meeting, Gilmore said he was glad to be with the district and said he had had a good week so far.

“I’ve met about 75 percent of the teachers so far and hope to finish that up on Friday when we have our staff meeting,” Gilmore said.

The school has an enrollment of 359 (195 at the elementary school and 164 at the high school). Gilmore said from the first day of school, the elementary school has an attendance rate of 96.93 percent with the high school attendance rate at 95.68 percent.
