Principals give updates of school year

Wed, 09/23/2020 - 5:00 am

Jacksboro Independent School District principals gave updates on how the first few weeks of school have gone to board members during the Sept. 14 meeting.

Jacksboro High School Principal Starla Sanders said as of Sept 11 her enrollment was at 297, but three new students enrolled earlier Monday making the enrollment at 300. Attendance is strong at 97 percent. Homecoming Week activities went very well.

Remote students are 19 and quarantine students are 13, Sanders said. Most of the quarantine students should be back later this week.

At Jacksboro Middle School, 268 students are attending classes right now with an attendance rate of 97.6 percent. Nineteen students are attending remotely. Principal Sara Mathis announced Open House was held earlier in the month and 92 students out of the 268 had daily representation there.

Jacksboro Elementary has 494 students, including five or six new that day, Principal Michael Quall said. Qualls said a new program at the school is a staff shoutout for different groups doing an outstanding job that week. A Sonic drink will be bought for each team member.

Something new the district is trying is putting a list of current events on the district’s website so people can have an update list of what’s happening and whether tickets can be bought only or at the game.

With all the changes being made in times and dates, Superintendent Dwain Milam said changes will be put on the weekly events section of the district website.
