One seat contested on BISD board

Mon, 04/23/2018 - 2:36 pm

BRYSON – While three spots on the Bryson ISD board are up for reelection, only one is a contested race.

Places 6 and 7 only had the incumbents Cliff Smith and Travis Thorne file. Place 2 had one candidate file in newcomer Hayden Behling with Danny Lewis, who is presently serving in the spot, as a write-in candidate. Lewis said he had every intention of filing for the position but work kept him from doing so.

“I was out of town on the last day (to file),” Lewis said. “I had planned on being in town and thought I would just file on the last day, but couldn’t do it.”

Lewis, who has lived in the district for 56 years, works in both the oilfield and rental property businesses. He has had four children go through the Bryson schools, the youngest graduating last year.

“For 32 years straight I had someone in the Bryson schools, so I definitely have a stake in these kids,” Lewis said. “I want to continue that.”

Behling, 37, a physician’s assistant, has been in the district and the state of Texas for nine months. No further information was provided despite repeated attempts to contact Behling.

Early voting began Monday and will take place weekdays through May 1 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the school, 300 McCloud. Election day is Saturday, May 5.
