Mangum gives Lions update on Twin Lakes work

Jacksboro Parks and Rec Director Will Mangum provided updates on work at the Twin Lakes Activity Center to Jacksboro Lions Jan. 13.

Renovations on the Center have included repairing one leak which has gone well and seemed to solve at least one problem. Work on the floors continue as a membership drive will go full force once the floors are complete, Mangum said. Dances for adults and kids are being considered once the floors are done

Magnum also wants to get soundboards installed to help improve the resounding echo in the building.

“When we host events folks will be able to hear each other,” Mangum explained.

Groundbreaking at the nearby Back to Space facility is expected to begin at the end of the month. A successful telescope night for the Christmas Star in December was so well received another telescope night is being considered next month.

Mangum said adding about four or five more scopes will shorten the waiting time. Unfortunately, astronomers said much of the activity of late is going on well after midnight. Mangum is trying to find a happy medium

Mangum recently made a trip to a city park in Bandera and got some ideas on how to possibly improve the activity center’s access to the waterfront for possible fishing. Mangum also said he saw some ideas for a disc golf course.

Other ideas that will come with the renovation of the center include the development of an after school program, a movie night for the kids. and Circus T-Rex, which is in negotiations for three shows in one day sometime in February but an exact date has not yet been set.

With the renovation of the center also comes youth sports including Spring soccer. Mangum said bringing in teams from out of town like Graham, Perrin and Bryson is a definite possibility. Since discussion of this a couple months back, there’s definitely been a big increase in anticipation on also building some playground equipment that is linked together and adjust very easily that Magnum found down in Bandera.
