LSJ employees helping to fight hunger

Wed, 04/28/2021 - 5:00 am

MTC-Lindsey State Jail is proud to embark on a new service project to fight hunger in our community by planting a garden and conducting a food drive for the Concerned Citizens Center and Jacksboro Community Food Pantry.

This is one of four service projects the Lindsey State Jail will participate in 2021 to celebrate Management Training Corporation’s (MTC) 40th anniversary. In 1981, MTC was founded with a

mission to help at-risk, underserved men and women change their lives through education and training.

MTC operates the Lindsey State Jail for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The first service project was to improve literacy. Lindsey staff and community partners collected 2,612 books which were delivered to Concerned Citizens, Head Start, Jacksboro ISD, and the Gladys Johnson Ritchie Public Library. This quarter, the focus is on the battle against hunger.

“What a great cause to help feed people who may be struggling in our community,” says Warden Grady Wallace. “The pandemic has only made things worse for some families. It’s estimated that more than 50 million people, including 17 million children, may experience food insecurity in the U.S. We want to do our part to help anyone in our area who may be struggling to put food on their table.”

MTC was founded on the principles of helping others change their lives through education and training—and ensuring people have the basic necessity of food is crucial to that mission.

At the end of the food drive, the staff at Lindsey State Jail will tally up how much food they collected / harvested, and donate it to Concerned Citizens Center and Jacksboro Community Food Pantry.
