Jacksboro ISD received an A in its Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) score.

During a public hearing at the JISD board meeting held on Oct. 14 at the JISD Administration Building, Superintendent Dwain Milam said the district received a score of 98 for its financial accountability, which is considered superior by the State. No one spoke at the public hearing on the report.

In other news, Jacksboro Middle School science teacher Alex Rodriguez was the featured Teacher of the Month. The district’s three schools rotate selecting a teacher to talk about themselves and what got them into education.

Rodriguez, who is in his third year at the school, says he had two influential teachers while he was a student. One of them was an educator who taught science. He was a good educator, but didn’t really care about the students or whether they succeeded.

The other teacher cared about her students and whether or not they became a successful person, which he has decided to model himself after. Rodriguez says giving students a reason to care about what they are doing is important and one of the reasons he enjoys teaching and coaching.

“He has formed a bond with the kids,” JMS Principal Sara Mathis said. “He makes it fun to be in his class.”
