JISD estimates 'B' rating

Wed, 07/24/2019 - 12:26 pm

It’s the time of year when educators across the state start looking forward by looking back.
Assessment results have been rolling in and although the official ratings are not out, Jacksboro Independent School District Assistant Superintendent Brad Burnett presented rating predictions for the district and its three campuses at this month’s school board meeting.
STAAR tests are just one piece of one of three domains of the new A-F rating the state began implementing last year.
The three domains are Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps.
The first domain combines state testing scores with readiness for life after graduation and graduation rates for the district’s overall rating. School Progress looks at academic growth and the performance of economically disadvantaged students. Closing the Gaps compares academic achievement, graduation rates, English language proficiency and more to determine that score.
Burnett said emphasized that the results presented were preliminary, but believed the final score for the district would be an 88 or a high B.
“We are cautiously optimistic that will hold true,” Burnett said. “Again, these are preliminary numbers. It is good news, a significant increase from last year as far as the district is concerned.”
