By the time students reach their senior year in high school, the Class of 2022 probably felt like they know it all.

Not by a long shot.

Studies have shown that seniors may know about the three R’s, reading, writing, and arithmetic, but show very little knowledge in those life skills like changing a tire, proper etiquette, or first aid/CPR.

Students at Jacksboro High School learned a few things about the outside world during Senior Day, held Tuesday, Nov. 16.

Students were allowed to pick four of the nine life skills offered such as the above. These skills were taught in classes held in different parts of the high school.

In an etiquette class taught in the teacher work room, Leslie Chalmers gave instructions on how to design a proper place setting and what each piece of the setting is used for. She offered information on what wine goes into what glass which appeared to have the students in her class enthralled.

More seniors gathered for a financial discussion. Wes McCurry told seniors to be very careful about anyone offering free T-shirts on quads while in college, as an example.

“That is a credit application you’re filling out,” McCurry explained. “Make sure you know what you’re doing.”

McCurry suggested students speak with their parents or guardians about credit before heading off to college, and also suggested students ask how much their guardians think they should handle.
