Jacksboro Has Welcome Mat Out For Week End Spring Roundup

Wed, 07/29/2020 - 5:00 am

Jacksboro has been busy during the past week getting the welcome mat ready and out and the visitors already are arriving for the annual Spring Roundup staged by the National Association of Sheriff Posses and Riding Clubs.

Starting with an officers meeting Thursday night, the horse fanciers and their families will spend two big days with their playday games at two arenas.

A parade Friday, forming at the Fireman’s Arena at Lake Jacksboro at 12:30, and a trail ride from Wizard Wells, through the famed Billie Yates Charolais Ranch with a likely look at a Longhorn herd, will lend variety to the payday events. Palmetto polo, drill team contests, a hootnanny and a ‘queen contest will be everyday playday events.

The Jacksboro Chamber of Commerce and the Jaycees, headed by Jim Bevans, have joined the sponsoring Jack County Sheriffs Posse in helping the visitors feel at home.

Jack Smith president of the chamber, is secretary of the Posse, which is headed by Carl Berry. Carl Ramzy is general chairman of the Spring Roundup event and H. H. Hatfield is in charge of stalls for the hundreds of horses being brought in.
