Jack County sees voter turnout growth

Jack County saw growth in voter turnout with nearly 950 voters making their voice heard in the Nov. 5 Constitutional Amendment Election. 

A handful of Jack County residents had a Graford ISD bond election to vote on, the entire county had opportunity to voice their opinions on the 10 ballot measures approved in the 86th Legislative Session.

The cumulative unofficial reports released by Jack County Elections Administrator Lynn Casteel and updated on the Texas Secretary of State election results website showed a total of 947 voters, or 18.8% of the 5,030 registered voters in the county, voted. 

In 2017, the Constitutional Amendment Election and Faith Community Hospital Board election had a total of 390 votes, or 7.8% of the 4,997 registered voters at the time vote in the election. 

The county had slow voter turnout throughout the two weeks of early voting held at the Jack County Courthouse Assembly Room from Monday, Oct. 21 through Friday, Nov. 1. A total of 41 voters had voted in the election on the first day of early voting, according to the Texas Secretary of State website. 

Early voting ended Friday, Nov. 1, and the county had 377 votes in person, or by mail, or 7.5% of the 5,030 registered voters in the county.

The last day to register to vote was Monday, Oct. 7. The last day to apply for ballot by mail, received not postmarked, was Friday, Oct. 25, and the last day to receive ballot by mail was Tuesday, Nov. 5, by 7 p.m.
