Your family member is sick and you’re going to be spending a lot of time in the Wichita Falls area. The question then becomes where are you going to stay. Families under a lot of stress already can stay for a much lower rate than a hotel and be in close proximity to United Regional Medical Center.

The Rathgeber Hospitality House is across the street from United and can be used by anyone with family at a hospital in the area. The facility has been vopen for 20 years, and has prices of 20 years ago at just $40 a night according to Executive Director Kim Tomlinson, who spoke to Jacksboro Lions Club members recently. The facility has 26 guest rooms, so there is usually always an opening. Someone is always there 24-7-365 to answer questions or to register folks. Tonlinson said each room has a queen bed and a sleeper sofa with a community kitchen to save money and help families who want to stay close to the scene in these COVID times.

For information on the home, call (940) 764-2400.

In other news, Lion Joe Mitchell inquired about getting the Handy Lion program started once again. Mitchell said Concerned Citizens of Jack County will be the main contact point to have work done. Lions will request to work on the team and when a request comes in the team will be contacted to see who wants perform the task.

Small tasks would ideally be done within 24 hours with larger projects requiring approval from the committee.

“These large project may be out of our scope of abilities, or we may be able to coordinate with other organizations to get them completed,” Mitchell said in an email.
