Hospital ready for Shape Up

Fri, 12/09/2016 - 2:14 pm

A Faith Community Hospital program that had a tremendous first year is back for its sophomore run.

Shape Up in Faith is beginning its second year with an opening ceremony at 6 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Twin Lakes Activity Center, according to FCH Wellness Director Joe Copeland. Last year 196 people took part in the 12-week program and dropped 1,281 pounds.

“We don’t have any goals for this year, but we would certainly like to beat that,” Copeland said.

As was the case last year, the entry fee includes all the exercise classes, including boot camp and Zumba offered at the TLAC along with nutrition classes on various topics offered as part of the Challenge. One of the most popular parts of the Challenge are the weekly weigh-ins scheduled from 7 to 10 a.m. Mondays throughout the Challenge at the hospital’s Faith Cafe.

Copeland said the Swan Family Wellness Center, which is expected to open in early February, will then offer 25 percent off the first month of classes for everyone that takes part in the Challenge. Those taking part in the Challenge must be members of the TLAC in order to compete.

Presale memberships are being sold right now. Copeland said there have been several calls inquiring about the Center and the memberships. While memberships are being sold pre-sale now, the purchasers will not be billed until after the center opens, Copeland said.

Those that purchase in advance get a free T-shirt. Memberships can be purchased by the month ($40 a month) or for an entire year if so desired. Individual and family memberships  ($75 a month for families of three people or more) are also available.

Copeland said there is a slight savings for those who buy for the year. For further information on either program, contact the center office at (940) 216-2257.
