Hop on the wagon

Wed, 04/07/2021 - 5:00 am

Everyone wants to be associated with a winner.

Jacksboro’s softball team went unbeaten through the first round of district play, including a big win over host Holliday in the opener. From that point, the crowds have been increasing.

Getting my favorite spot would have me at games 15 minutes before first pitch. I’m now there an hour prior. Before the Holliday rematch, I was there 90 minutes before the 5 p.m. start but that was for a reason I’m entirely proud of.

The Jacksboro Police Department, in another tremendous way of getting involved and showing its support for the community, had a pregame picnic starting at 4 p.m. for which there was already a nice crowd. Hot dogs, chips were served to get the fans fired up.

Bleachers were set up beyond the outfield fence to give the facility a true ballpark feel. Having the field and beyond full of supporters was great.

What was even better as everyone heading next door to see the boys play once the girls were finished. Most of the time fans do which is very nice to see.

On Tuesday nights, folks leave about mid-game to get home which is cool. Friday nights, they stay a bit longer as the team has had some interesting games in the first round of district.

The girls can use all the support they can get the final three weeks of the season. It’s a passioned run for an unbeaten two loops around the district. Here’s hoping they can do it.

The next two games are on the road, playing Friday night at Bowie and Tuesday up at City View. Gametimes are 5 p.m. for both affairs. The boys play at 7:30 p.m. Friday and at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Wichita Falls

Fortunately at City View, the fields are literally 50 feet apart so you can go back and forth and see what’s going on. I like the fact there’s always a couple of cattle out beyond the baseball fence watching what’s going on.

Come join the fun.

That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading.

See y’all down the road.
