Home Run Derby

Wed, 04/14/2021 - 5:00 am

Jacksboro Elementary students have recently been busy with a Home Run Derby fundraiser for the Concerned Citizens.

The Concerned Citizens is the non-profit organization that serves the elderly and the disabled in Jacksboro and Jack County. It offers many services to the seniors, including the mealson-wheels program, among many other services.

This past year has been very difficult on the seniors in the community due to the Covid pandemic and the facility was forced to temporarily close and only offer meals through the meals-on-wheels program. Many of the seniors enjoy their lunch meal dining and fellowshipping together at the facility and for the past fourteen months, this has not been possible.

Lack of revenue to the center, sparked the need for a fundraiser and these elementary aged kids collectively raised over $4,200 for this local organization. Kudos to all the students who participated in this event and to Heath Tullous for all of his hard work in accomplishing this very worthwhile project of not only teaching our students about fundraising but also about giving back to the community they are living in.
