Helping when in need

Jack County RFD helps keep power plant operational

When in need, it’s always good to know there’s someone willing to help.

Jack County officials were contacted last week by the State Department of Emergency Management Services that the Jack County generator of the Brazos Electric Company on Henderson Ranch Road was in need of demineralized water to keep the power on. The water is used to cool the turbines.

To keep the water pure, a stainless steel truck was needed to haul the water from the Miller Power Plant in Palo Pinto County. Jack County Director of Emergency Management Frank Hefner said the county FD has a fire tender with a stainless steel tank that could do the job.

“Because of the freezing temperatures, Jacksboro couldn’t do it,” Hefner explained. “We sent them RFD out.”

The truck transported 3,000 gallons Wednesday and another 3,000 gallons Thursday, once some things were ironed out with the state. Hefner said the stainless steel tank helps keep the water deminderalized.

Jack County Judge Keith Umphress said the tank washable to be used because it had not yet been contaminated.

“Texans working together,” Umphress explained. “Jack County doing its part keep Texans warm during this cold weather.”
