Health fair coming up Sept. 17

Thu, 09/01/2016 - 6:12 pm

If you’re wondering how your cholesterol is doing, but don’t want the expense of a doctor’s visit, head to the Jack County Health Fair Saturday, Sept. 17.

Once again, Faith Community Hospital will offer free blood draws and lab work testing blood glucose levels, cholesterol, kidney function, blood count, electrolytes, PSA for men, and B12 for women.

FCH’s Kristy Holman said the fair is coordinated by the Jack County Health Action Coalition which is made up of local health service agencies.

“All of the different resources that are provided to people in the area are coming together and letting community members know the services that are out there,” Holman said.

The health fair will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Twin Lakes Activity Center.

Attendees will have the chance to learn more about services that they or a family member could use.

“For example, if somebody was interested in knowing what home health agencies cover this area and learn more information about what they can and can’t do,” Holman said. “There’s information on hospices, medical equipment and more. It’s different every year as far as what agencies come.”

She said this year, there will be an agency in Olney with information on sleep studies.

“All vendors are welcome that provide resources for anything that is health related. They just need to let us know,” Holman said.

There is no cost to host a booth at the fair and the event usually books a full house with 40 to 50 vendors.

For more information or to register as a vendor, contact Holman at 940-567-6633 or Alinda Cox at 940-567-2132.
