A fire destroyed a home on one of Jacksboro’s main thoroughfares Tuesday morning.

Jacksboro Fire Chief Jeremy Jennings said firefighters were dispatched to the 200 block of West Belknap at about 7:20 a.m. When they arrived, they found the fire burning in the front half of the house that used to be a dress shop.

Jennings said a woman and two teenagers were there when the fireman arrived, but he reported no injuries.

The fire burned for about two hours before the crews from Jacksboro, Bryson, Perrin and Jack County Rural dpeartments were about to put it out.

“It was just too dangerous. Stuff was falling, the roofline was collapsing so we couldn’t get in there,” Jennings said. “Being an older house, the wood was really dry and it took off.”

Jennings said he is unable to determine the cause of the fire from what little remained once it was put out.
