Fatal crash on Highway 281 Thursday morning

A woman was killed in a crash Thursday morning on Highway 281 just north of Jack County.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Dan Buesing reports that at approximately 11:30 a.m. Mary Laverne Bevers, 48, from Windthorst, was killed just south of Highway 16 while trying to enter her driveway.

Bevers collided with an 18-wheeler which was driving south in the northbound lane.

Bevers was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected from her pickup during the collision and pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured. DPS is investigating the accident.
