Faith Community Hospital Recognized for Commitment to Maternal Health and Safety

The state applauds the local medical center for ongoing initiatives to improving patient experiences.

Faith Community Hospital (FCH) has recently been awarded a certificate of recognition from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) for their participation and commitment to the TexasAIM Plus initiative.

“Being recognized by the state for the hospital’s commitment to maternal health and safety underscores our mission to bring superior healthcare to the greater Jack County region,” says Frank L. Beaman, CEO of Faith Community Health System (FCHS). “While the ongoing pandemic has rightfully demanded much attention and resources, we still have not lost sight of other needs in the communities we serve.”

TexasAIM is a partnership between DSHS, the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health, and the Texas Hospital Association to help hospitals and clinics carry out maternal safety projects. The initiative’s goal is to end preventable maternal death and severe mortality.

There are two participation options in the TexasAIM program: Basic and Plus.

Basic participation in the TexasAIM initiative grants the hospital access to: educational events; tools; communications; networking opportunities; essential technical assistance and support; and the AIM

Data Portal to track progress in implementing the AIM Maternal Safety Bundles.

TexasAIM Plus participation provides hospitals with all the benefits of Basic participation plus: facilitated learning; sharing and collaboration; individualized technical assistance; rapid access to resources; information and innovations; peer-to-peer mentoring; and guided support from experts in maternal health and safety and in quality improvement.

“Complications can arise and with TexasAIM we have implemented policies and procedures that have allowed us to catch these complications earlier and respond effectively and efficiently,” explains Jessica Coker, B.S.N, R.N., neonatal director at FCHS. “This program has been the pinnacle to our team and how we practice because it has saved lives in our community.”

The award coincides with Faith Community Health System having just achieved Level 1 Maternal

Designation status and the renewal of Level 1 Neonatal Designation status.

“Through all our initiatives, we have seen the protocols and practices put in place save the lives of our patients. That will always be our priority,” says Brandi Bennett, B.S.N., R.N., maternal director at FCHS. “We have seen the things we have learned and implemented on our unit change the lives of patients and their families in our community. At the end of the day, we can go home knowing we made a difference.”
